Cranston joins the Junior Girls Squad as one of two Team Ontario program graduates. The Oakville, Ont. native had a breakout year highlighted by a win at the 2020 Ontario Junior Girls Championship. In 2019, Cranston finished 2nd at the Future Links Ontario Championship and 3rd at the Future Links Fall Series (East).
Q: What are some of your nicknames?
My full name is Katherine, but people usually call me Katie.
Q: How did you get into golf?
When I was younger I would always participate in all the sports at school, when I was ten they had a school golf day so without ever touching a club before I did it and loved it.
Q: How do you mark your golf ball?
I put a blue dot on each side of the number.
Q: Do you have any siblings?
I have two older brothers, Iain and Alastair.
Q: What was the last book you read?
I read Catcher in the Rye for school.
Q: Who would play you in a movie about your life?
I would get Jennifer Lawrence to play me in a movie.
Q: What is something most people don’t know about you? Any hidden talents?
I was born in Finland and grew up in Russia, so I speak Russian.
Q: What exercise do you dread the most?
Push-ups are my least favourite.
Q: What was the last picture that you took on your phone?
The last photo I took on my phone is of Nessie, my puppy.
Q: What is the best thing about your hometown?
Oakville is great because it’s on Lake Ontario and the Oakville Golf Club
Q: Do you have any superstitions?
I always mark my ball in the starters tent.
Q: What is the most surprising thing in your golf bag?
I have multiple hair brushes in my bag.
Q: If you could have a walk-up song on the first tee box, what would it be?
‘Can’t Hold Us’ by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
