Thanks for reaching out about my first ever hole-in-one. I was playing with my brother, Steve Hewitt, Don MacDonald and Geoff Mitchell (Steve, Don and Geoff are all members at Whitevale Golf Club).

Yardage that day was 135 to a middle pin that had a slight ridge behind it. I hit my 9 iron 12’ past the hole, caught the ridge and rolled back into the hole (just like TV).

I was playing with my buddies, Dale Anderson and Mo Farrokhi. The 8th hole at Mill Run Highlands is carded at 173, but yesterday it was playing about 163. I hit a nice little cut with my 7 iron that was tracking well, landed just on the front edge of the green, checked and spun a little left. It released for the final 10-15 feet and just dropped in the front of the hole.

I wasn’t 100% sure that I was seeing this correctly, so I looked over at Dale and said “Did that just drop?” and he said “yes!”. I looked over my shoulder at Mo, for further verification, and said “Did that really just go in?” and again got a positive response. I was pretty calm on the surface of things, but I’m sure my heart rate went up around 100 bpm for at least two or three holes until I calmed down again.

The only picture that I thought to take was the ball in the hole. The context behind it was that 10 days earlier the ball stopped one inch short of a hole-in-one on #13, same course. I had taken a picture showing the ball in that position, and showed it off to everyone, so it occurred to me that this was on better.

All in all, pretty exciting; my second hole-in-one coming exactly 40 years after my first!

Thanks again,

Doug

Thank you! It was a very exciting experience to say the least as it was my first hole-in-one in my six years of playing golf. I only started playing after I retired and love the game.

I was golfing with Beth Reage (on the right) and Judy Kirby (on the left) on Ladies’ Day. Hole #12 is approximately 115 yards from the red tees and I used my 6 iron.

The group picture was taken the following week with a few of the other amazing ladies from Ladies’ Day group. (many were missing on August 9th due to rain).

Eaglequest Grandview also presented me with a souvenir flag that I’m holding.

I was enjoying my game with my husband, Steve, and two staff members of Sirocco, Taylor and Ben when I got my hole-in-one on #5. I used my six iron and had a great shot that rolled to the pin for a distance of about 109 yards. It was very exciting as this is usually the most difficult part 3 for me on our course.

I was playing with my best friend, Brad Moore. It was 152 yards, and I used an 8 iron. I didn’t think to take picture as funny enough I got a hole-in-one on that same hole last year. A big wind in my face lead to using the 8 iron (last year I had used a pitching wedge). Attached is the picture from last year’s hole-in-one that Simoro took.

Saturday was a beautiful day. The front nine was very kind to me; I scored well on the easier holes and got some lucky breaks, I played well. Then the turn. Bad shots were punished, bad bounces and poor lies. It seemed the luck had run out. Scored poorly on holes #10, #11, #12 and #13. On hole 14, my favorite hole, I managed a par. 15th another poor shot was punished.

On the tee-box of the #16, I’m thinking, “three more holes…let’s see if we can post some good scores…”  The 16th hole measured 144 yards. The pin was in the centre, no wind (which is unusual), water in the front.

Played an easy 8 iron. It tracked the hole. From the instant I hit it, I knew it was a good shot, maybe in birdie range. My playing partner, Richard Wong, screams “it’s in the hole”. I look at him and say, “no way, not the way I’m playing today”.

I was convinced the ball landed behind the flag pole, Richard was convinced it was in. It was in

My first hole-in-one. What a thrilling ride!

Hello,

Thank you very much for your email.

Most definitely it was an exciting day for me on Friday, July 22, 2022! It was an early morning round with fellow Bighorn Golf and Country Club members Jim and Deanna Choppen. Hole 17 is a par 3 with the tee box distance set that day at 93 yards and the green is slightly elevated. There are four traps located on this hole, one in the front, one on the left side of green and two on the back on the green. I made the shot with a TaylorMade pitching wedge, executing great contact and ball flight was dead on the pin. With the green being elevated and a left side pin location, we were unable to see the ball until we made our way up to the green. The only thing better that day would have been to see it drop into the hole!

It certainly made my day and made me realize once again my love for the game of golf!

Thank you for reaching out. It was on hole 12 at Richmond Country Club. I was playing off the blue tees and it was lasered at 168 yards. There was a decent amount of wind into us off the right, so I told my group (Kenrick Li and Nash Zheng) that I was going to knock down a 6-iron with a little cut. After I hit it, I knew it was a good swing, so I quickly went down to pick up the tee and when I glanced up to see where the ball landed, I saw it one hop and go into the hole. I said to my group that I think it went in…either in the hole or over the green. When we walked up, I saw the pitch mark a couple feet from the pin and knew it was in.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for the kind note regarding my hole-in-one. My playing partners that day were Dave Slack, Ernest Ellis and Wayne Mitchell. We were playing in the Senior Men’s League. Play was from the forward tees and the second hole was playing 135 yards with a back centre pin placement. I used a Titleist AP2 8 iron and a Titleist Pro V1x ball. Unfortunately, given the time of day and the shadows on the green, I was did not see the ball go in the hole. Only after looking for the ball behind the green and not finding it, did I decide to check the hole and was quite surprised to see it had gone in. This was my third hole-in-one. The other two were on the 17th hole a Huron Oaks. Those I did see go in. It is a very exciting experience!

We had just finished the front 9 and went into the clubhouse to buy a drink. Two or three weeks prior, a little four-year-old died in a golf cart roll over near the golf course. In the club house they were raising money to help the family with elastic bracelets with the little boy’s name on it. I donated to help the Williams family and took a bracelet!

I believe it was the spirt of young lad that help get the hole-in-one! I would like to dedicate my hole-in-one to the little guy and the Williams family in his memory!

11th hole Bellmere Winds. 161 yards to the pin. Over water by the green. I used a 5 iron. I was playing with John Lea, Grant Sumler and Haris Armstong.

Thank you very much for reaching out asking about my first hole-in-one and its experience. Who can believe it!

Fresh off from arriving home from winning as part of a Canadian team in the Euro Junior Cup in St. Andrews, Scotland, I didn’t think my week could get much more memorable but, I captured my first hole-in-one! It occurred while playing in the CJGA Canadian invitational at Lionhead on hole 11, par 3, 165 yards. I pulled out my 9 iron from my bag and hit off the tee and landed it five feet from the hole and watched it drop in. I couldn’t believe it! Memories for life with footage to look back on and smile. Got to love this game.

Thank you for your email.

Hole #11 is an uphill par 3. The yardage was between 155-160. I used a Taylormade 3 hybrid. Lenorad MacDonald was my playing partner.

I knew I hit the ball well but didn’t see it land. I was nervous when we got to the green and didn’t see the ball. I was going to look out front of green, but playing partner said check the hole. I was doubtful, but pleasantly surprised when it was there. Never thought it would happen to me.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi!

What a surprise!  I guess there is a second benefit for posting scores hole-by-hole!

I used a 5 hybrid for 105 yards at #13 at Paragon Golf and Country Club. I was playing with Mike Willett, Doris Armsworthy and Wayne Armsworthy.

This was my fifth hole-in-one, and each has been special.

– #1 was scored on Mother’s Day, 1999, on #13 at Oakfield Golf and Country Club. I memorialized that day with a quilted wall hanging. At that time, Oakfield rewarded those who scored a hole-in-one with a page in the chit book. Other members signed the book giving me a drink at my convenience. I did not buy a drink until September!

– #2 was scored on #17 at Paragon Golf and Country Club shortly after we retired to the Valley.

– #3 was scored on #15 on February 11, 2012, on the Hills Course at Timber Pines. It propelled our weekly scramble team to a win (entry fee $1/person yielded $3-4!)

– #4 was scored on #2 on January 28, 2018, on the Lakes Course at Timber Pines.

Thank you, it was an amazing feeling!

I was golfing at Glendale with my husband and two fellow members, Marty and Zane. It was a beautiful evening. The third hole was about 105 yards, and I used my Callaway 9-iron. It’s a tougher hole given the water that you need to go over to hit the green. The shot looked good, and it was heading for the flag. We saw it hit the green and roll, but then disappear. With the sun shining in our eyes a bit, I thought it might have just rolled to where we couldn’t see it. As we approached the green, we only saw three out of the four balls and thought, maybe just maybe, my ball rolled into the hole. Indeed, it had when we went to inspect! Very exciting to get my first hole-in-one!

Thank you for reaching out, what a nice touch!

This was my first hole-in-one, what an awesome feeling.

The details:

– I played with family friends, Connor Campbell, his brother, Matt Campbell, and their dad, Mark Campbell.

– It was on the 8th hole of the Central 9, 175-yard, par 3 – Pin was middle/back

– I chose a 6 iron as we were into a slight breeze, I hit my line of just 5 yards right of the pin but originally thought it came up short. It landed just on the front and rode the slope of the green about 25 feet before dropping. It was very cool to see it drop, a feeling I will never forget!

Thank you for reaching out and celebrating my achievement. I am still overwhelmed by the events that took place on Saturday, August 13, 2022. I never thought I would secure a hole-in-one so early in my time playing golf.

I was playing with three of my close friends who are all Clublink members; Teresa Chu, Rosa Zheng and Wei Vivian Tang. The mileage, measured by Teresa, was 109 yards. Normally I would use my 9 iron for this shot, but due to oncoming wind and to carry over a bunker positioned in front of the pin, I decided to use my 8 iron. After I took my swing, Vivian thought that she might have heard my ball hit the flagstick and it could’ve jumped in, however, we were all not sure because we couldn’t see the hole from the tee box. When we reached the hole, my amazement the ball actually landed inside!

Thank you for making me the graphic of this great memory I will keep for the rest of my life.

Yours,

Tina Ting Hu

I used my 3 wood on hole #8 at Ridgetown Golf and Curling Club while golfing with Catherine Chavis on a quiet mid-morning Monday during the height of the pandemic.

If you are familiar with our course, you know our greens are very small. We call them postage stamps!

Hole 8 is a 162-yard par 3.

Bob Moore, a member of our grounds crew was cutting grass near the green at the time. He got off his mower to walk over to the cup and confirmed the hole-in-one as Catherine and I walked onto the green.

I’m not sure who was more excited!

This was my one and only hole-in-one after playing golf for over 50 years!

Cheers,

Erica Otaguro, Dundas Valley, Hole #2

Thanks so much! It was very exciting!

It was quite the morning. We teed off at 7:10am on Thursday, August 4. The group of us all had awful tee shots on hole #1 so we thought it was going to be a rough round. I was playing off the white tees (my first time this season), so I wasn’t sure what to hit on hole #2. I looked at my buddy Kyle and said, “I don’t know what to hit here so I’m just guessing”. It was a blue pin, and it was about 135 yards out. I hit a pure 8 iron and right away my buddy said, “that looks real good”. I saw land on the green and it rolled to the left and then it dropped in. My friends started shouting saying it was in and I started to argue saying it couldn’t have gone in. I ran up and saw it and couldn’t stop shouting. It was fantastic. Best part, my buddy, Kevin Oikawa, then got a hole in one on hole #4. So, two holes-in-one in the same group on the same day!

It was such an amazing day!

Best,

Erica Otaguro

Kevin Oikawa, Dundas Valley, Hole #4

It was quite the morning (August 4th, 2022) as our group’s excitement was still in the clouds with Erica Otaguro’s hole-in-one on the second hole, a perfect 8 iron to the 135-yard ace.

So, stepping up on the 4th tee box, there was still a lot of excitement and laughter about her hole-in-one. The 4th hole at Dundas Valley is an uphill par 3 where the bottom of the pin is hidden from sight due to elevation and slight ridge in front of the green playing 184 yards. There was still some golf razzing going on as one of the group members (Pierre) says just during my pre-shot routine, ‘hey Kevin, I think that is a bit too much club!’, as he was watching me take a practice swing with my driver. In the past, I’ve told those playing with me I don’t want a hole-in-one on this hole for that reason of explaining driver! I also said if I do get one, we’ll agree to say it was a 5 iron. I step up, swing, hitting a ‘punch cut driver’. It’s on the way cutting back to the flag, I look and walk towards the cart, even if it’s a good shot it usually runs to the back, middle of green at best. It hits the ridge in front and Erica yells “I think it hit the pin!’ Like little excited school children waiting for their summer vacation to start, we approach the green, giggling and dazed. A numbness grows as I get out of the cart and walk on the green. As all of us just look at each other with that look, ‘is this really happening’. There it was, my ball in the hole. Our groups’ second hole-in-one after four holes played! Then the explosion of joy of why we play this game! Thank you, golf gods for taking us to a special place for that moment of time.

I said to my group that I think it went in…either in the hole or over the green. When we walked up, I saw the pitch mark a couple feet from the pin and knew it was in.

Kind Regards,

Kenton Liu

Thanks for your email.

My first hole-in-one. Played with fellow Lookout Point member, Jim Neudorf. Pin at Lookout #5 was at 143 yards that day. I used an 8 iron. I’ve been playing since I was 14 years of age (I’m now 64). I retired on July 31 – so the ace was eight days into my retirement.

Thanks,

Paul

It was during the Arrowsmith annual Men’s Club Championship. Was golfing with Jeff Calahoo, Peter Hanson and Don Johnson. On hole #3, the pin was at the back of the green playing about 170 yards. I used a 5 hybrid club. All it took was luck!

Thanks for your interest.

Thank you for the kind words. I had five people witness it as I was playing with another single and they were letting us play through on #3 where I got the ace. I had the member I was playing with sign my scorecard, but I don’t have his name. The yardage was 169 and I used a 7 iron. This is my first hole-in-one, and it was pretty cool to see as I’ve never seen one before.

Robert Lynch, Thornhill Country Club, Hole #5

temp alt for theme iandt

I am a member at The Thornhill Club, and I was playing with two other members, Joe Berberich and Bob Linghorne, when I got the hole-in-one on the 5th hole. It was playing at 157 yards into a front pin, and I used a 6 iron into the elevated green. The ball flight was directly at the pin but we did not see the ball go in since it is a plateau green, but Joe said that he saw the ball when it landed and he said “It disappeared”. That was our first inkling that it might have gone in but we didn’t give it much thought then. We climbed up the steep slope to the green and then saw that there was no ball on the green. Bob Linghorne was first to the hole and he confirmed that the ball was in the hole.

This was my third hole-in-one but my first at The Thornhill Club.

Hi,

I had two hole-in-ones within a month! Crazy! 50 years with one and then two within a month. The first was May 7th at Glencairn, hole #3 on the Leitchfield course. Blue pin. 185 yards. I hit a 4 iron.

Then, a month later, June 11th, again at Glencairn. #3 on the Scotch Block course! 171 yards. Blue pin. I hit a 7 iron.

I’m hoping it’s a month occurrence!

Thanks.

Hey Golf Canada,

Thanks so much for reaching out about my hole-in-one. I’m an 11-year-old junior golfer at Scarboro. I absolutely love golf and was pretty excited to get a hole-in-one at my home course. My first! It happened July 31st on the second hole. Red tees. 130 yards. I hit a 7iron. I was playing with my 8-year-old brother, Harrison, my dad, Steve, and his girlfriend, Kim.

By the way, my brother got his own hole-in-one back on January 19 in Florida at the Caloosa Golf & Country Club. 4th hole. 126 yards. 7 iron!

Thanks again!

Thank you for the email. It was very exciting as I have never witnessed a hole-in-one or got one previously.

Here is the information of the hole-in-one:

– Sunday, July 31

– Dalewood GC

– Hole #13

– 143 yards

– 9 iron

  • Group Members: Bryan Lemmon (Dalewood member), his wife and son.

I retired from teaching at the end of June and my wife had a retirement gathering for me at my house. She had each guest sign and write something on a golf ball. It was one of those golf balls that I used for the hole-in-one. It was signed by a teaching college of mine, Mariette Rozon. Since I retired, she wrote on the ball, “No one is the Boss of You!”, which is fitting I guess if you retire. This made the moment more meaningful to me as I really valued her as a college.

Yvon Legault, Loch March, Hole #16

temp alt for theme iandt

The distance was 133 yards. I used my 6 iron from the white tee box. My shot looked short when I hit it, however it bounced just over the last bunker on the right and kicked forward toward the pin. It then grassed the pin and continued past the hole and up slope heading for the third tier. The ball stopped near the top of the slope and rolled back into the hole. It was a lucky shot and was witnessed by two golfers ahead of my threesome. I was paired with a couple I met at the course, Wendy and Bob.

I received a flag from the pro shop, and they took a photo. My first hole-in-one and I’ve been golfing for over 40 years Woohoo! ?

Cheers,

Anita Blanchette, Miskanaw, Hole #4

Thanks so much!

Yes, it was a great day!

I was playing with my husband, Kim Blanchette, and our good friends, Rob and Lorraine Zacharias. Hole #4 was the special hole at 125 yards. I used a 6 iron. It landed on the collar, rolled around the ridge that the flag was on and right into the hole! The guys were saying, “it’s heading for the hole!” but they’ve said that before, so I missed the entire thing as I was thinking yeah right and bent down to pick up my tee when they shouted “It’s in! It’s in!” There was a lot of whooping and hollering for sure! Rob and Lorraine were so excited, they were telling everyone and messaged Chris at the pro shop to let him know.

This is actually my second hole-in-one. My first was also at Miskanaw on July 14, 2006, on hole #8 before the course was redone. This one was about 165 yards, and I used my 3 wood. None of us saw the ball drop in the hole so we were looking everywhere for it. Finally, I said, I’m going to check the cup and there it was! So, this is extra special as most people aren’t fortunate enough to get even one in a lifetime and I’ve had two!

Thanks again!

Anita

I was pretty excited as was my friend, Ian Dawson, so he videos the ball pickup. Tony, however, didn’t skip a beat, just continued on with his game. Happens all the time, right Tony.

Jacob Green, Predator Ridge, Hole #8

Thanks guys! Was a surreal experience for sure! I was playing with Kevin Morgan, Maisun Ang-Hamilton and Liam Williamson. The yardage was about 180 to the centre of the green and I was using a 5 hybrid. Ball went right off the face of the club and bounced off a hill probably 20 yards to the right of the pin, kicked straight left and rolled right in.

Thanks,

Jacob

Thanks for the congratulatory message. Very kind of you guys at Golf Canada.

I was playing with a friend, Bob Nicholson. He’s in my regular Saturday/Sunday game, although he was on holidays, so it was a Tuesday when this happened. The hole was playing 155 yards and I hit 7 iron.

Oswald Ricketts, Smugglers Glen Golf Course, Hole #10

It was on the 10th hole at Smugglers Glen Golf Course. I was playing in the 28th year of the Boland Cup Tournament with many old buddies. It was a very windy day, so I used a longer than usual club, a 7 iron. I scuffed it, it hit the front of the green and just continued to roll and then slowly disappeared into the hole. My playing partners were Glen Fast, Dr. Steve White and Tom Wightman.

Thanks for the note. I was playing with one of my usual playing partners and fellow member, Conrad Hansuld. We were playing hole number 3 at Sleepy Hollow from the back tees. The pin was front left. I gunned the flag at 176 yards, but we were hitting dead into the wind. I took a 6 iron and hit a soft draw that landed a few feet short of the hole. It took one hop, then rolled into the cup.

I have been playing for decades and have come close many times, but this was my first hole-in-one. It was quite a rush!

Doug

I was golfing with Beth Reage (on the right) and Judy Kirby (on the left) on Ladies’ Day. Hole #12 is approximately 115 yards from the red tees and I used my 6 iron.

The group picture was taken the following week with a few of the other amazing ladies from Ladies’ Day group. (many were missing on August 9th due to rain).

Eaglequest Grandview also presented me with a souvenir flag that I’m holding.

Unfortunately, given the time of day and the shadows on the green, I was did not see the ball go in the hole. Only after looking for the ball behind the green and not finding it, did I decide to check the hole and was quite surprised to see it had gone in. This was my third hole-in-one.

Thank you for your interest.

Good day,

Thank you for reaching out, the hole-in-one was quite the experience.

I was with Miguel Laurin, Phillipe Drouin, and Gabriel Laurin. We were playing golf for my bachelor party.

Just before the golf shot, I remember saying “somebody should film our par 3’s in case someone gets a hole-in-one” but unfortunately, we did not film the shot.

The par 3 was hole #6 and I was playing from the white markers. The yardage was approximately 130 yards, and I used my pitching wedge. My golf ball went passed the pin and then back spined into the hole.

Thank you,

Clark Johannson, Elbow Springs Golf Club, Hole #3

It was epic.

It was a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon, and I was enjoying a round of golf with my 17-year-old son Will and another guest couple at Elbow Springs here in Calgary. We approached the 3rd hole, par 3 on the Mountain Course and could see the flag was at the back of the green. We scoped the distance, and it was about 172 yards. My son went first and had a great tee shot. He was about 10 feet from the pin, so I felt confident in the distance. I had my trusted Taylor Made Sim 7 iron and as I was taking a practice swing, I could tell my swing felt a little tight. I decided to aim a little left of the flag to allow for a fade, expecting that I wouldn't get a full rotation. I had a solid connection and, as predicted, the ball was fading slightly. It landed left of the pin in the middle of the green and started to roll toward the hole. It seemed like it was moving fast, and we were so far away we couldn't tell if it was short or long. Then suddenly it just disappeared.

I looked at my son and we both were shocked. We started cheering and laughing in disbelief. You see, I'm 55 years old and have been golfing since I was 8. I've never had or even seen a hole-in-one. My father, who taught me to play and was an avid golfer, went his whole life without getting a hole-in-one. It was a fantastic moment and I'm so glad I was able to share it with my son.

Cheers,

I was playing with my best friend, Brad Moore. It was 152 yards, and I used an 8 iron. I didn’t think to take picture as funny enough I got a hole-in-one on that same hole last year. Howard Levy, King’s Rding Golf Club, Hole #16

temp alt for theme iandt

Golf Canada, thanks for the recognition.

Kenton Liu

Thanks,

Cheers,

I was enjoying my game with my husband, Steve, and two staff members of Sirocco, Taylor and Ben when I got my hole-in-one on #5. I used my six iron and had a great shot that rolled to the pin for a distance of about 109 yards. It was very exciting as this is usually the most difficult part 3 for me on our course.

Gary Brown, Simoro Golf Links, Hole #7

temp alt for theme iandt

I was playing with my best friend, Brad Moore. It was 152 yards, and I used an 8 iron. I didn’t think to take picture as funny enough I got a hole-in-one on that same hole last year. A big wind in my face lead to using the 8 iron (last year I had used a pitching wedge). Attached is the picture from last year’s hole-in-one that Simoro took.

Thanks,

Gary

Thank you for contacting me regarding my recent hole-in-one. I was playing with my co-worker, Louie Smith, and his friend, Nelson. Louie and I work as paramedics for the city of Hamilton. The par 3 was playing 185 yards into a slight breeze and I hit a 4-iron to a front flag. It was my first hole-in-one, so a memorable one!

Golf Canada, thanks for the recognition.

Hello,

Thank you for the email.

Saturday morning, I played with Rick Vaive (ex. Toronto Maple Leafs player/captain) and Donald Cooke. Rockway hole #6. From the blue tees to the middle pin measured 148 yards. Used an 8 iron.

Joanne Galbraith

Thank you very much.

I was playing a round with my friends, Trevor, Jordan and Connor. I hit a 6 iron from 174 yards. Faded it in. Then, it dropped a few feet in front of the pin and it ran right up and disappeared.

Kenton Liu

Thanks,

Thank you,

Vincent West

It was just another beautiful day at the club. It was on the 10th hole. 179 yards to the hole. Took my 5 iron out and took a nice easy swing, ball hitting the sweet spot on the iron. From there it was history. I believe Loris mentioned to the group to watch the ball, which rolled past the flag and started to roll back.

Phil Kavanagh and the staff were wonderful and made me feel like a star!

Third Hole: Between 9:40 and 10 a.m.

Tee Blocks: Blue, White, Red and Gold with all set at same distance: 165 yards

The prefect club for the third hole today was my new Hybrid 6.

I was the first to tee off! I reminded myself to just swing easy, but it had to be a full swing! I swung nice and easy exactly like I told myself! My ball’s flight was right at the pin, it landed, bounced, rolled and then it disappeared. I wasn’t totally sure, but Bill and Iain were celebrating that it was in the hole.

I’ve been sort of golfing for about 20 years and became a member at Shannon Lake Golf Club in 2021. I turned 78 on July 11, 2022 and am trying to become a better golfer as I really enjoy golfing with a group called “The Loonies” on Mondays and Fridays.

The hole-in-one came after a rough front nine and was from the blue tees as we were playing Blue/White tees that day. I used my Taylormade rescue 6 from approximately 158 yards and my ball landed 3 feet from the front of the green and rolled in.

Chris Young, Dave Clare, Dave Munroe and I were in the foursome.

Thank you,

Thank you for the email.

June 28, 2022 will be a date I’ll never forget!

The closest I could describe the feeling of my hole-in--one, would be how I felt after the first time I jumped out of a plane. Adrenalin will run throughout you like you have never felt before. I’m not kidding. I played high level hockey up until I was 25, playing in front of filled stadiums, winning championships and my hole-in-one exceeding the high of any of those experiences, I suppose because it’s a solo experience. It truly is magical.

June 28 showed a 60% chance of showers, and I forgot my umbrella. It started to rain lightly on the 6th hole at UBC golf course. A week prior, I was organizing my storage room and found an old favorite golf hat, which I haven’t seen in 20 years, excited to find it, I put it in my bag. With no umbrella, I pulled out the hat and proceeded to tell my buddies Arv Singh and Eric Thrall the story about, what I called my lucky hat. Boys, check this out. I bought this hat 30 years ago when I lived in Japan. In 1992, I worked as a golf caddy at the Appi Kogen Golf Club. I haven’t worn this hat in 20 years…she’s my lucky hat.

The next hole was the par 3, 7th hole. The pin was 140 yards and slightly up hill. For me this is a perfect 7 iron, a club I’m super comfortable with. One practice swing, then line up, exhale and everything felt effortless, it was a pure shot, hardly felt a thing. I could see the ball clear as a bell. It was like slow motion, watching it fly high and straight at it. One bounce and clink! I knew it, right away! My club went flying and fell on the t-box yipping and hollering and my buddies were too. This carried on for a bit. The foursome on the green behind us saw the shot, I could hear them and turned around and they were on their knees in full worship…not worthy. What a feeling!

Walking up to the green, there was a small part of me that thought perhaps it might not have gone in, as the green was elevated and the sightline was about even with me standing, so I was a bit anxious.

I am fortunate my buddy got my reaction on video because it says it all.

Rounds and food were bought, including for the worshippers behind us and the Marshal.

For a hole-in-one at UBC, they make you an embroidered flagstick flag with their emblem and hole number and your name and date of your hole-in-one.

Thank you for acknowledging my hole-in-one.

Thank you very much for the congratulations and for acknowledging my hole in one at RHGC on July 2nd. I was golfing with my brother-in-law, Louie Sartor, my nephew, Jamie Sartor and a friend Carl Koteff. As you know, it was on # 17, 141 yards and I hit a 7 iron, TaylorMade Speedblade. I didn’t actually see it go in, but Jamie said he thought it did although he didn’t know for sure.

This was actually my 2nd hole-in-one. The first one was on April 13, 2013, on hole #5 at Eagles Nest in Vaughan.

I was golfing with Gerry Zado, Dr. Bert Ball and Bill Michaluk at Holiday Park in the Seniors golf on Thursday June 30th. The second hole was 110 yards. I used my 50-degree wedge and fortunately hit the perfect shot. I was very high and came down about two feet from the pin and bounced once and into the hole. Gerry birdied the hole and Bert and Bill each had pars. Not bad for four golfers who average over eighty years old. This was my fourth “hole-in-one” so it wasn’t as exciting as the first one. We had beers in the Club House after.

It was in

I was playing with Rob Foot and Curt Bogren, fellow members at PMGC.

The 16th hole at PMGC was playing 155 yds into a fairly stiff breeze. I hit 6 iron.

The best part was that the hole-in-one was in addition to 6 birdies and 2 bogies, leading to a personal best 66 — a score I never dreamed of shooting in my lifetime!

Cheers,

Tom Pinter, Braeben Golf Course, Hole #7

This was my second career ace and much nicer than the first some 25 years ago which was a topped shot that bounced and rolled some 150 yards into the hole.

This one was on the 138 yard 7th at Braeben with a pitching wedge. The swing felt great, and the ball went high and never left the pin, bounced once and disappeared.

I was with my friends Wally, Dominic, and Phil.

Thanks,

Tom

Thank you for your interest in my recent hole-in-one. Number 13 hole at Equinelle was playing about 165 yards that day. I used a four hybrid. It was somewhat anticlimactic as my partners and I did not see the ball roll in. We knew it was on a good line but lost sight of it coming down and on the green. I thought it had rolled through the green so that is where we looked for the ball. Eventually, we walked back to the hole and discovered it there! I was playing with other Equinelle members, Hugh Craig, Howard Spaulding and Erin Coyne.

That was my third hole-in-one. The previous two, also at Equinelle, were on number 16.

Again, thanks for your interest.

This was my fourth hole-in-one (all at Dalewood) and my second on Dalewood’s eleventh hole. The hole was playing about 125 yards, and we were into a bit of wind. The club was a 9 iron. The irons were new to me (Taylor Made Stealth). I had used them for about a week. My playing partners that day were P J Lennon, Fred Hopkins and Paul Hryciw.

My first two holes-in-one were in 2014 and were 27 holes apart. My last one, before this one, was in 2019 and also on the eleventh hole at Dalewood.

Thank you for this opportunity to showcase my ace.

It was our Thursday Seniors Golf and as noted, it was on the 12th hole of our Mission Golf and Country Club. We are playing a temporary green for the 12th as our signature 12th was damaged in the November rain storms. The hole was playing 102 yards uphill. I used a 54-degree gap wedge. The ball landed within a yard of the pin, one hop into the hole.

Of my three aces, this is the first one I have witnessed.  The beer drinking members were happier than I.  All in all, it was a memorable shot.

Doug

Tom Pinter, Braeben Golf Course, Hole #7

temp alt for theme iandt

This was my second career ace and much nicer than the first some 25 years ago which was a topped shot that bounced and rolled some 150 yards into the hole.

This one was on the 138 yard 7th at Braeben with a pitching wedge. The swing felt great, and the ball went high and never left the pin, bounced once and disappeared.

I was with my friends Wally, Dominic, and Phil.

Thanks,

Tom

Mary Beth McKenna, Westmount, Hole #3

temp alt for theme iandt

Editor’s Note: Our very own Golf Canada staff member, Mary Beth McKenna, achieved an ace at the Westmount Golf and Country Club. This is her second hole-in-one!

It was at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship Media Day, so it was quite an event to get the hole-in-one. It was at Westmount Golf & Country Club on Hole #3 from 179 yards and I hit a 4 iron. I was playing with a few members of the media (Brady Kingsbury and Gary McKay) and the host club exemption from Westmount (Angella Lee). Hole #3 is right beside the clubhouse so there was lots of excitement!

Brad Wightman, Two Eagles, Hole #9

temp alt for theme iandt

Was a heck of timing to get my first hole-in-one.

It was the First Men’s night at Two Eagles in over 2 years! We had co-sponsored the night so playing with some friends and work mates.

Shotgun start and we started on hole 3 – on hole 6 I nearly lipped out a hole in one…!! My cousin Tyler, was in the group in front and said the ball JUST cut across the top of the hole and came to rest about 2 feet away. I was asked by one of my playing partners if I have every had a hole-in-one. ‘No” I said… that is about as close as I ever have! But funny enough I also said that before that shot, the closest I ever had to hole-in-one was hole 9 here at Two eagles a number of years ago.

Cut to hole 9…

I see the Cherry Hill coffee tent set up, but there is no signage to indicate anything special, I assume they just sponsored Men’s night…Cass from Cherry Hill is handing out coffee and I ask what the yardage looks like.  He said it is about 155 yards…with the wind and slope of the green play a 140 yard club.  So, I grab a 9 iron and step up. Hit it crisp with a bit of baby fade, it landed nice. There was a crest in front of the hole that I willed it to get over, because it would leak down towards the hole if it did. It did indeed and began running towards the hole…at this point we knew it was going to be decent, as we watched it roll towards the hole… and suddenly it just disappeared. IN!

Of course, we all went wild and about halfway thru the celebration Cass from Cherry Hill says to me…you know you just won a prize right??!! I had no idea! And the celebration started all over again!  We were all super pumped.

Thankfully not all 120 guys stayed for dinner and drinks, so the bar tab wasn’t too bad!!

Great memory!

The superintendent sent the exact hole stats: 161 yards.

Thank you for the reach out!  Still feels unreal.

Bill Embree, Dalewood Golf Club, Hole #11

temp alt for theme iandt

This was my fourth hole-in-one (all at Dalewood) and my second on Dalewood’s eleventh hole. The hole was playing about 125 yards, and we were into a bit of wind. The club was a 9 iron. The irons were new to me (Taylor Made Stealth). I had used them for about a week. My playing partners that day were P J Lennon, Fred Hopkins and Paul Hryciw.

My first two holes-in-one were in 2014 and were 27 holes apart. My last one, before this one, was in 2019 and also on the eleventh hole at Dalewood.

What a great email to get, thank you very much.

It was my first ever, so quite the experience.

I was playing with two of my regular partners, Mark Kolchetski and Terry Needle. The yardage that day was 168 and a strong left to right wind. I used my 7 iron and hit into the wind and let it carry the ball back towards the green. The ball bounced once and then disappeared into the cup. We all saw it so clearly it was awesome.

Once it happened word spread quickly and before I knew our club GM, Peter Young, was driving out in the cart to congratulate me. So happy that I did it on my home course at the Nest, it’s in beautiful condition and the staff is top notch. It was great to share it with all of them. Thanks for the certificate.

Alexander Heuton, Sleepy Hollow, Hole #3

temp alt for theme iandt

Thanks for the note. I was playing with one of my usual playing partners and fellow member, Conrad Hansuld. We were playing hole number 3 at Sleepy Hollow from the back tees. The pin was front left. I gunned the flag at 176 yards, but we were hitting dead into the wind. I took a 6 iron and hit a soft draw that landed a few feet short of the hole. It took one hop, then rolled into the cup.

I have been playing for decades and have come close many times, but this was my first hole-in-one. It was quite a rush!

Thank you for this message and congratulations.

Doug Heard, Mill Run Golf & Country Club, Hole #8

temp alt for theme iandt

Cheers,

Many thanks for the recognition. The setting was Men’s Day at the ECC. A blustery day with the breeze into us. My foursome included Harold Schmaltz, Trevor Theman and Dave Reich. I was last to hit (says something about the game I was having) and noticed my partners had come up short on the 172-yard hole. I clubbed up to a 4 iron and hit a baby draw to the left front hole position. My mates could see the ball disappear, I thought it had slipped into the swale at the left side of the green. Harold was first to arrive at the green and when no ball was found on the green, he confirmed the surprise, “in the hole”. Unfortunately, as a bunch of old guys we never considered capturing the moment on camera. Club policy has free beverages for all and as it was Men’s Day there were many happy members to share the event!

Once again thanks for the recognition.

Playing partners that day, left to right – myself, Kevin Black in the back, Bernie Gouthro and Laurie Murchison far right. The hole can be windy and with that in mind, I punched a 6 iron to the hole – approximately 120 yards away. I was playing with Dan Betinson, Grant Desmet, and Nick Boyd.  Wednesday is men’s night at storey creek. The 4 of us play together pretty much every Wednesday.  That night the yardage was 180 yards. I used a hybrid 4 iron. No of us were sure the ball went in just because of where the pin was. Couple of the guys thought it was in but weren’t sure. I had to go look in the hole to be sure. It was my second hole-in-one on hole 5 at storey creek and third overall. All three happened on men’s night. It was a pretty special moment last week for sure.

Thanks for taking an interest in my hole-in-one!

It’s only the 3rd time my wife (Kathye) and I have played the course starting last year. As mentioned, I played with my wife and we were paired with a father and son, John and Jeff (we have no details about them) and Jeff graciously acted as a witness when I reported to the clubhouse (and he signed the card). The hole normally plays 160 yards from the Whites, as per the scorecard but the tee box was under repair and as per GPS, it showed as 122 yds to the middle. We were hitting from the fairway and the hole is slightly uphill so we could not see the cup. I used a 9 iron and saw it was right at the pin but as the greens weren’t holding that day, I fully expected the ball to bounce off the back of the green into the rough. Jokingly, before going to look in the rough, I said I’d just take a quick look in the cup and there it was! I was so shocked it was in.

This is my 2nd hole-in-one in my life. My first was last year, June 19 at Nottawasaga Hill course, hole #9. I waited 56 years for my first one and less than a year for the 2nd. Can’t wait for June 2023!

Thanks again for your interest.

Hi,

Thank you so much! It was so fun.

I was golfing with Colleen Simpson, Sherry Bradley and Valerie Bitner. Val saw it hit the pin, but I walked fine with my 9 iron and putter thinking it rolled off the green.

I used a Callaway 7 wood, and it was a front pin. I believe the front was 128 on my Garmin but it was over water.

I actually had another one almost 6 years ago on hole #7 at Black Mountain. Needless to say, my husband who has never had one is less than impressed. Ha ha!

On 06/10/2022, I was golfing with my dad and another partner who we had just met that day. It was early in our round, 3rd hole to be exact, when we approached a Par 3 from about 135 yards out. I used my 8 iron and hit a clean shot but just to the right of the green. There was a mound over there, and having previously played there, was hoping for a kick left. Sure enough, it catches the mound, kicks left and rolls towards the hole. It disappears as it got close to the hole and I was pretty sure it was one, along with one of my partners. They let me approach the green and sure enough, the ball was in. The whole day was a blur after!

Thanks!

What a pleasant surprise.

Indeed, I got a hole-in-one on the #14 par 3 at the Carnoustie Golf Course on Monday June 6, 2022. I used my Taylormade M4, 6 hybrid to hit 131 yards. I landed the green and watched the ball roll to the pin. I wasn’t certain of it falling in the hole, as that is beyond belief. I actually thought it rimmed the hole and rolled behind the pin. As I approached the green, I finally suspected that I had actually achieved a hole-in-one since the ball did not have enough momentum to roll to the back of the green. It’s an exciting moment of golf!

I played my round with Annie Lucas and Gail Limmert who are both members of the Carnoustie Ladies Club.

Unfortunately, we did not take a picture of me on the green as this is my second hole-in-one on the #14 par 3. The first occurred October 4, 2015, when I was playing with Jan Hull, Trena Cole and Vivian Dawson from our Carnoustie Ladies Club.

My second hole-in-one July 30, 2019, on the #8 par 3 at Carnoustie while playing with Barb Boivin and Denise Pineau who are members of the Carnoustie Ladies Club.

I have golfed all over Canada and I think it is amazing to get a hole-in-one, however I can’t believe that I have had three of them and all on the same course with ladies from my club.

I can share a picture of the ball. When getting a hole-in-one, I immediately pull out my Sharpie and write the date, hole number, and have the ladies I am golfing with sign my ball.

Thank you so much for the wonderful graphic.  What a surprising acknowledgement!

Kindest regards,

Thank you for the email and the certificate for my hole-in-one. Further to your email, I would like to share the details of my experience.

The day started off with my wife Monica, son Hans and his girlfriend Sarah teeing off in the rain at Capilano. After three holes of rain, the rain stopped, and we all teed off #4 the par 3 at Capilano Golf and Country Club. My son teed of first, then I hit my tee shot… Hans watched the shot and said “I think that went in ?” … Monica and Sarah then hit their tee shots. We all walked up to the green, there were 3 balls on the green … as I walked by the hole I saw my ball in the hole! What a great feeling!

The distance was 148 yards and the club I used was a 6 iron … (I don’t hit my irons as far anymore, but I guess far enough!)

I have played golf for a long time and always wanted to get a hole-in-one. To be able to achieve this with your wife and son was very memorable and special experience for my first hole-in-one! As well, Sarah the fourth in our group has had 2 hole-in-one’s! So there more work to be done to catch her!

Thanks again for your email.

Wow…my legend precedes me. Big thanks for the high five and you’re right: I’ll be talking about that one for a while.

Probably like most distinctly average golfers, I spent too much time looking for my ball over the back of the green.

Hello!

I had to rush to the course to make my 4:28pm tee time because of a busy day at work. Once I got there, I felt flustered because I wasn’t able to warm up on the range or putting green. I didn’t end up shooting very well on the front 9 so I had to grab myself a beer at the halfway house to reset for the back 9.

Hole 10 was playing 168 yards that day with the front pin. My friend Andrew Barton stuck his shot 8 feet near the pin, and my other friend Brad McClure stuck his shot 10 feet near the pin. When it was my turn to hit, I took out my 8 iron and made a subtle comment “want to see a third?” When I hit my shot, it felt so pure as it headed directly for the hole. The ball landed 5 feet short, and we were all watching to see if it would roll in, and once it did the group erupted. Our 4th group member Reilly McCann grabbed me to start celebrating and I felt like I blacked out because I couldn’t believe what happened. I’m sure the whole course heard us celebrating!

Thank you!

Thank you for the recognition.

I was playing with some of my regular Tuesday night guys; Greg Nanton, Tim Clark and Geoff Wheaton.

It was 130 yards to the pin. I hit my 8 iron left of the pin by about 30 feet but it came down off the side hill and across the green and into the cup.

Ironically, none of us saw it go in from the tee box as the pin was behind a sand trap. When we got to the green, we could not find my ball until I looked in the cup and there it was!

P.S. This was my first ever HIO! I am 67 and I have been playing golf for about 45 years.

Thank you for reaching out.

Friday was a perfect day at The Pulpit, one of the most beautiful courses in Canada.

I was playing with two other Members that day, Greg Blackstock and Buddy Pitt as well as our new Director of Golf – Donovan Fraser.

The hole-in-one happened on hole #7, blue tees, the pin placement was back center, wind right to left and the distance was 134 yards. I hit an 8 iron and it one hopped into the hole. A very exciting moment.

This was my second hole in one.  The other one was also on hole #7 at the Paintbrush.

It was a fun moment to share with our foursome and the other groups that we were with that day.

Thank you,

Sam

It certainly was an exciting evening on June 10 for my first hole-in-one!

We were sitting eating dinner and thought…let’s go get 9 holes in at the Bear, so we quickly finished up and got ready for golf. It was my wife Christa, daughter Katelynne and youngest son Kaese (our oldest son Tyson was at work).

It was a beautiful sunny evening for golf. Once we got around to the par 3 #8 hole, I pulled my 8 iron for the 155 yd shot. When I hit the ball, I knew it was tracking towards the hole, but there was a ridge just over the bunker, so I didn’t know the ball went in the hole (I knew it had to be close to the hole). My family proceeded to hit from the red tees. When we got up to the green, we couldn’t see the ball, Kaese was the first to the hole…and confirmed the ball was in! There was obviously a big celebration (shock)…and hugs all around! It was a fantastic moment shared with the family.

Thank you for this nice congratulations note from Golf Canada.

I was golfing my second round of the day (after a morning women’s open tournament at our club) with my husband David Holm on his  65th birthday, our son Marcus Holm age 24 and who was playing golf as if he’s played all his life (he hasn’t – he’s a skier and a climber) and our best man and friend Allan Zivot who has taught me a lot about golf over 30 years especially when we were members at the Hamptons Golf course when it initially opened. I used to play 36 holes there, as I’m a school teacher with summers off, and was very close to a hole-in-one. I remember that one because I was playing alone and was thankful it didn’t go in as I didn’t have any witnesses.  Well, I sure had the best witnesses today.

Right after the three men had tee’d off from the blue tee box my husband said matter of factly as they unnecessarily do, “hurry up Susan, the group is right behind us”. So, I grabbed my 9 iron after reading 130 yards on my Garmin. I hit it high and it dropped in front of the pin on the green and rolled right in!

Sincerely,

Susan Holm

Wow, thank you. My playing partners were Bob Haines, Mike Tilley, and Chris Gulliver. I used a pitching wedge and the yardage that day was 132 yards. This was my first hole-in-one, so we are pretty pumped.

Thank you again,

Thank you for your email. It’s as a pleasant surprise as the actual hole-in-one.

The details are:

  • I was playing with Brian Thiessen and Mike Tkachuk who are also members at Paradise Canyon.
  • I was using the championship (blue) tees so approximate yardage was 190 yards and I used a 5 iron.
  • I saw the ball land just before the green, bounce and then roll on the green. It was deep middle (white) flag positioned on the right side of the green. Because of our vantage point we could see most of the pin (flag) but could not see the cup. Therefore, we did not see it roll in. When we got there, we did not see my ball anywhere on the green, so Mike Tkachuk was the first to assume it went in and sure enough found my ball in the cup.
  • Strangely, although I was happy as it was my very first hole-in-one, I took it all in stride and did not get overly excited. I probably would have gotten more excited if I could have watched it roll in.

Thank you for your congratulations. I use the Golf Canada app every time I golf and keep my score and a few statistics on a hole-by-hole basis. It’s an awesome app. Keep the good work.

Regards,

Mike Vercillo
